Starting
late in life Toby began indoor karting at twenty-four. A number of high
profile wins against fat friends and girls convinced him that racing
was in his blood albeit slightly diluted by a hazy, drink fuelled, university
life.
A chance meeting with Paul, a seasoned racer already, led to a promising start in Club 100 endurance racing. Sadly this was followed by a shortage of hard results but undeterred they bought a 100cc Wright kart to practice in. As an interlude, entry into the three race Mercator F1 Challenge almost won the HSBC team (Toby, Paul, Luke and Tim Rothwell) a trip to Monaco for the 2001 Grand Prix. If it wasn't for those damn pesky Nat West boys... Back in 100's, realising the cost, and frequency, of rebuilds was starting to eat in to the extensive racing budget a decision had to be made. Team Motorvation was born and the Tony Kart Rotax Max purchased. Early results were promising but then mechanical ineptitude combined with a stuck power valve saw them at the back of the grid for what they consider to be their black period. A chance comment from a friendly marshall helped fix the problem and since then a 6th and 3rd (thanks Luke) in the Rye House Rotax Max endurance have boyed their spirits. Roll On 2002! |
